Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference Next Week in Chicago! Help Spread the word!

Here's a message sent by John Hosteny to his National Service Network:

"On November 04, the Tutor Mentor Connection will host its fall Leadership and Networking Conference in downtown Chicago. Since 1994, this conference has attracted an incredible array of practitioners and leaders as part of an ongoing effort to support tutor/mentor programs. I hope you can join us for a full-day of intensive workshops, discussion and sharing.

The conference will be held at the Metcalfe Federal Building, on the 3rd floor of our building.   .

The good news is you still have time to register! Just visit www.tutormentorconference.org to learn more about the conference and register online.

Why am I sending this message to our service partners outside of Chicago? The reason is simple: other cities and communities face the same challenges as Chicago. Your strategies to engage volunteers, your work developing education-to-career programs and all of the things you do need to be heard. Representatives from all corners of Illinois are encouraged to participate and learn. I hope you share this information with all of your partners.

Thanks everyone."

Can you write an article showing youth in your organization who are now adults in productive jobs and careers due to your influence? Share these and point to the conference so others can network and learn from you.

What happens after the Conference?

This presentation shows the  year-round event strategy of the Tutor/Mentor Connection and the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC  - http://tinyurl.com/TMC-Collaboration-Scribd-com

For the next 8 weeks after the Nov. 4 conference our collective goal should be to motivate more holiday and year-end donors to choose one, or more, volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs to receive their support.  I will be writing about this, but hope others will to.  I will point to the list of programs on the Conference Speaker Agenda and in the Tutor/Mentor Program Locator Directory.

January 2012 National Mentoring Month - celebrate what donors have done to support your program during November and December!  Create local events that not only recognize volunteers but recognize donors and leaders for the support they provide tutoring and mentoring programs.  Learn more of the events planned by MENTOR, The National Mentoring Month. Visit http://www.mentoring.org/program_resources/training_and_events/national_mentoring_month/

August 2012 - all of the school based tutor/mentor programs will be staring their volunteer and student recruitment for the 2012-13 school year.  If the networking we do in November, January and at the May 2012 Tutor/Mentor Conference builds collective strategies that help programs attract more volunteers and donors many programs will be able to recruit more volunteers and serve youth more effectively and some new programs will have launched in places where none now exist.

This is the year-round thinking that the Conference and other work of the Tutor/Mentor Institute seeks to stimulate.  Planning ahead can build more impact and this can grow from year-to-year. I look forward to discussing these ideas with you next week at the Conference or in on-line forums. Email me if you'd like to schedule a meeting.
