Stop Dismantling Social Security and Medicare

Hi,

I signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama which says:

"NO benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. NO tax cuts for the top 2%"

Obama - Biden
Brian --

You know what they say: Practice makes perfect. And with Election Day only 28 days away, we need to make sure we're at the top of our game.

So, on Saturday, we're getting together for a Camp Obama training in the West Loop. Think of Camp Obama as a one-day crash course in political organizing.

You'll be working with some of the best volunteers and organizers in the country, covering everything from the basic skills like making calls and having conversations at the front door, to advanced trainings on how to talk about the issues and inspire other volunteers to get more involved.

It's a chance to hone our skills -- for veteran campaigners and newcomers alike. Can you make it?

Check out the details here:

What: Camp Obama volunteer training in the West Loop

Where: IBEW Local #134
600 West Washington Boulevard
Chicago, IL 60661

When: Saturday, October 13th
12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

RSVP now

If you've been looking for a way to play a bigger part in the work we're doing, Camp Obama this Saturday is where you need to be. We'll cover all the ins and outs of organizing, from building a strong neighborhood team to recruiting new volunteers to pulling off great events.

You'll also drill down into core skills -- like how to talk to your neighbors about the President's accomplishments, or become an expert canvasser or caller. By the end of the day, you'll have the skills you need to have a big impact and build support for President Obama.

The success of this movement is going to depend on the strength of our ground game -- we have to make the last 28 days of this campaign count.

Come to the volunteer training, hang out with other supporters, and pick up some new tricks of the trade:

Bob Herbert: No More Excuses

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-herbert/no-more-excuses_b_1941156.html?ir=Media

I agree with both of these sentiments. POTUS has got to do more, not just in the debates, but in his day job, in the remaining time he has in this term and hopefully in his next term---- re: inner cities, for the poor (blacks, latinos and rural whites, for Chicago's west and south side). I strongly support his re-election but want more than I saw in the debate and his first term

My favorite analysis of the 1st debate was this skit by Ed Shultz

Amazingly, Obama failed to dramatize the injustice of Romney’s desire to exempt wealthy individuals like himself from any participation in the inevitable fiscal adjustment the country faces.

Chicago Tribune - Front Page - Gang factions lead to spike in city violence

http://touch.chicagotribune.com/#section/546/article/p2p-72679881/

I  live close by and am always driving by 79th & Ashland. Damn.

The Gangster Disciples also occupy a large chunk of the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. That neighborhood falls within the Gresham police district, which leads the city with 33 homicides through Sept. 21. Part of the reason is a conflict, police say, between two GD factions that do battle along a roughly 10-block stretch of the 79th Street corridor.

Ashland Avenue serves as a dividing line between two factions, with Killa Ward to the west and G-Ville to the east. According to city crime statistics, 14 shootings, six fatal, have occurred this year within police Beat 612, where G-Ville lies. Killa Ward falls in Beat 611, which has had 13 shootings and four homicides, the statistics show.
