Director of Exhibitions & Community Initiatives

Posted by: Chicago Artists' Coalition (Employer Profile)

Posted date: Dec-03-10

Location: Chicago

The Chicago Artists’ Coalition (CAC) strives to be at the forefront of artist advocacy, providing a bridge between artists and the communities in which they live and work. It is our mission to educate the general public on the value of art in society while providing support, advocacy, and professional development to artists in our community and improving artists’ living and working conditions.

Founded 35 years ago by concerned artists, Chicago Artists’ Coalition quickly grew into an incubator of creative problem solving. CAC was instrumental in the establishment of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and proved vital in advocating for the Percent for Art Bill which funds public art projects and has been adopted by cities nationwide. The CAC was also directly involved in the creation of the Illinois Arts Alliance and Chicago Artists Month, which occurs annually each October and now celebrates its 14th year. Always a beacon of innovation and vision, CAC continues to lead artists towards independence and the realization of their full professional potential.

CAC’s programs support Chicago’s diverse visual artist communities with professional development (A.B.C. – Arts.Business.Create workshops), exhibition opportunities (Around Town – Coalition Gallery, Art Loop Open, Pop Up, and residency programs), one-on-one consultations (critiques, business planning, and legal), marketing (online galleries) and audience building (Collectors Circle, public programs).
