“The Great American University: Its Rise to Preeminence, Its Indispensable National Role, Why it Must be Protected” / Chicago News Cooperative

One of the topics my sisters, who includes a tenured college professor and two others in graduate school,  and I spent time over the holidays discussing is the role of the university and tenure. This book points out "the main mission of universities is not the education of undergraduates, as most of us think. No, the system’s real importance involves research." Probably the most salient point, to us, is only the professor is currently employed.
