"Emanuel said that Malcolm X College would focus its classes on healthcare sciences, while Olive Harvey College would train students for work in transportation and logistics. Four more community colleges will join the program in the next two years, he said.
"Like the rest of the country, Chicago has a skills gap," the mayor said.
Emanuel said there were about 100,000 job openings in the Chicago area, where the unemployment rate is about 10 percent -- a mismatch that he said was "unconscionable."
The answer, he said was a community college program that prepares students with the skills they need to secure a job."
